Interferometric Imaging Radar for Space Situational Awareness Satellite Characterisation
نویسندگان
چکیده
The three-dimensional imaging of satellites from a groundbased radar is considered in a space situational awareness context. Utilizing the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) tomographic formulation and a model of the collection geometry in a specific low Earth orbit scenario, the shape and repeat nature of collection passes from ascending and descending orbits is evaluated and constraints on the formation of 3D SAR images are discussed. Processing of the three dimensional data can be implemented using interferometric and beamforming techniques. A worked example of a Ku-Band fine resolution radar systems illustrates that both interferometric and the curved collection path depth of focus information can be potentially utilized to form high fidelity three-dimensional images.

Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology provides a useful tool for quantitatively measuring the deformation of the earth, influenced by natural factors (earthquake, subsidence, and landslide) and human factors (construction of structures, drilling, and the overexploitation of underground water aquifers). In this context, time-series analysis of radar images allows the monito...
متن کاملThe Navy Precision Optical Interferometer for SSA applications: an update
The Navy Precision Optical Interferometer (NPOI) has been at the forefront of developing Interferometric tools for both Space Situational Awareness and astrophysical imaging. In 2009 we were the first group to attain fringes on a GEO satellite. Since then we have developed more sophisticated modelling tools and at the same time we have started to commission more and more stations. NPOI is now a...

متن کاملPredictability of GNSS signal observations in support of Space Situational Awareness using passive radar
GNSS signals have been proposed as emitters of opportunity to enhance Space Situational Awareness (SSA) by tracking small items of space debris using bistatic radar. Although the scattered GNSS signal levels from small items of space debris are incredibly low, the dynamic disturbances of the observed object are very small, and the phase of the scattered signals is well behaved. It is therefore ...
